Always a good idea to update the driver (regardless of what monitor you have) but this card should be more than sufficient to drive the 2405FPW.

Yes, use the driver from nVidia. Give it a shot via DVI anyway - the DVI spec says it should be able to do up to 1920x1200.

edit: spec calls for 1600x1200 @ 165 hz but with reduced blanking can hit 1920x1200.

Should I use the driver from Nvidia then? The Dell driver seems to address only rotatong the screen in portrait mode. I just found the user guide for this video card, looks like it will only support 1920x1200 @ 75mhz  thru VGA only.  Max for DVI is 1600x1200 only.

Where did you get the specs   "the DVI spec says it should be able to do up to 1920x1200"
I noticed it says should.
I have been trying to find out if this monitor will display hd on dvi
A Dell tech told me it will on component but not on dvi but could not tell me why.
I also think there is a issue with australian pal at 50hz

This is what I've been able to find. Under Product Support tab>User Guides>Video Adaptor>AGP Adaptor>128md DDR Nvidia GForce FX 5200:

http://support.dell.com/support/edocs/video/p57010/en/usage.htm

It says at the bottom of the page showing the specs, that with dvi connection the max resolution is only 1600x1200. But with an vga connection, max resolution is 1920x1200.

@whoops - that's my mistake. The specification allows for 1600x1200 @ 165hz, but with reduced blanking mode should allow you to hit 1920x1200.
