The inspiron 9300 is supposed to be released on March 22. In Canada. America will get it before us though. I'm sure.

6000 was a replacement for both the 5160 and the 8600...
they phased the 8600 out slower due to sales reasons.

" Graphics
Integrated Intel® Media Accelerator 900 Graphics
Optional: 64 MB DDR ATI MOBILITYTM RADEON® X300 PCI ExpressTM x16 Graphics
Optional: 128 MB DDR ATI MOBILITYTM RADEON® X300 PCI ExpressTM x16 Graphics "

It's dubbed the 6000D. It was released discreetly just like the XPS 2.
The 6000D is the 8600 equivalent, it's actually a lot better as well.

The 6000 was the replacement for the 5160. From my understanding the Latitude D800 was the business side twin of the 8600. Recently (in the past few months) the D800 disappeard (much like the 8600 has) then shortly there after the D810 came out. One of the primary things that the D810 had was an option for the ATI X600 graphic card. Rumor has it that a replacment for the 8600 (maybe called the 8700) will come out shortly as the twin of the new D810 and have a X600 Graphic card option as well.

Can anyone confirm this rumor? Is there a rumored date for this to happen?

Also, to clear up some of your confusion.
The Latitude D800 is still being sold, and probably will remain that way for a good amount of time. The D800 is still a valuable and cost effective business model. Dell makes a good amount of profit from this particular model. The D810 is in between a 6000D and a smaller 9200 (or upcoming 9300).
Differences between D810 and 6000D.

6000D
Screen capability: up to WUXGA Ultrasharp
Vid card limits: 128MB DDR X300
CPU Capacity: up to 2.0 GHZ
HD Capacity: up to 80GB
Memory speed: 400mhz - 533mhz?

D810
Screen capability: up to WUXGA Ultrasharp
Vid card limits: 128MB DDR X600
CPU Capacity: up to 2.13 GHZ
HD Capacity: up to 100GB
Memory speed: choice between 400mhz/533mhz

I've only used the 6000D in person, so someone correct me if I'm wrong in my comparisons to the 810. I believe I'm right, only part I'm iffy about is the 6000D's memory speed. We clocked it at 435mhz out of the box...

Ok, What I am looking for is a notebook in the inspiron line that has a ATI X600 graphics card. When is that going to happen?

It may not - unless Dell brings out an 8600 replacement.

If you want the X600, you can still purchase a Latitude D810.

The D810 dosen't have the discounts the Inspiron line usually does.  Why would they put the X600 in the business line, rather than the personal line (where it would be more needed/utilized)?  Just defys understanding.

Yes I would most like to see an Inspiron counterpart to the Latitude 810.

I want my desktop replacement somewhat portable (ie. not the 9300 with its 17" screen)...\

The discounts on the Inspiron lineup are also very healthy.

They may do this later down the line. Who knows...
They may do this later once they see sales are good in the X300 area. Dell tends to play it safe with new releases. If the X300 sells well, the 128mb version, they may bring it out and make it available in the 6000D later. But again, the 6000D "IS" the 8600 replacement. No if ands or buts about it. At least that's what they told us.
And they wouldn't lie to us... =)

Why would you create a replacement for something that has an inferior Video Card.  From what I have heard the X300 is like a crippled ATI 9600 which is what was in the Inspiron 8600.

nope, the X300 is a PCIx video card. Benchmarks are faster than the 9600... And so is the gaming performance. HL2 runs at 1024 high quality extremely well. 1280, runs good as well but you need to tweak some things in the multiplayer part.

Personally, I hate the 6000. It has a slow processor, inferior video ability, and various other faults. When is Dell going to release a laptop with a powerful processor (2.0GHZ PM standard, upgradable to even more) and good video card. I know that the mobile processors are faster than their equivalent P4s, but come on...1.6? I will be in need of a laptop soon, and I am gradually running out of options. I was interested in the 5160, but thats gone. The 600m sounds good, but the video card isn't good enough. The 9200 (soon to be 9300?) is good, but too big and too pricey. The XPS is gigantic and ridiculously expensive. I want a laptop that I can take to classes and such, but still enjoy a good video game when I get home, that I can purchase for relatively cheap. Is that too much to ask? I would just build one if I could.

PM is the future of mobile computing. Guess you can't please everyone.
I guess you're one of the people who like to carry around a 12lb brick or have a notebook sitting on your desk that runs hotter than a desktop CPU.

Go figure eh?

Hmm...It seems as if you do not know how to read. I very clearly imply that I do not want a gigantic notebook (the main reason I do not want the 9200 or the XPS). It very clearly says that I would like a notebook that I can easily take to classes. You cannot easily take a 12lb brick to classes. I also said that I understand that PM is good, but they need to implement faster processors in their newer systems.

Please learn how to read before posting, or doing anything for that matter. I promise it will save you from a lot of humiliation later in life.
