Dell Insp 8100 Power problem

Question

I have a Dell inspiron 8100 which is getting close to 4 years old (first problem I have had yet). I just replaced the ac adapter and battery so they are new. The power is somehow not getting to the laptop. The port for the ac adapter on the laptop is a smidge loose and if I wiggle the coord every now and then it will give me power. When the laptop is on it says no power is coming and the power light is yellow/orange. When my laptop is off it blinks green inconsistently (When the battery needs charging like it does now, badly, it should stay solid but it doesnt.) Anyway I took it in to be looked at and they said I need to replace the 'logic board' (is that the mother board?). I wasnt really unimpressed by the company i took it to. Are they about right with the problem or are they leaching me for money? Any information would be appreciated. (If I do have to replace anything I will do it myself and so if i must replace things where's the cheapest place?)

If the AC socket is loose it may be repairable.  Worst case is a new motherboard.  Cheapest place is anywhere but Dell.  These are usually available on eBay and sometimes from various parts resellers.
