if the flash failed, you will need a new motherboard.  call dell and hope that you're still under warranty

March 12th, 2005 21:00

well there was no warning displayed that it might destroy your mainboard. great

if it was under warranty when you contacted them to get the flash CD, you may have a chance -- otherwise, it's time to buy a new system

March 12th, 2005 22:00

this is exactly what I am going to do on monday.

March 12th, 2005 22:00

possibly. I can't tell you for sure.

oh, my bad, I thought dell sent the CD -- in that case, there's a disclaimer saying they're not responsible for damages caused by any of the files

March 12th, 2005 22:00

That is what I thought I did. There was no lower version than the A22, that said create a bootable CD to change to the Dell BIOS first. Well I did and now I killed my notebok.

March 12th, 2005 22:00

anyhow it should be possible for them to reflash the BIOS (or how do they do that if they manufacture the motherboard ??).

March 12th, 2005 22:00

you have to flash them in order. With the 5100 and 5150, you can't jump to the most current BIOS version.

The reason for this is that Dell changed the BIOS from a Pheonix BIOS to a Dell BIOS and they are not compatible or something.

March 12th, 2005 22:00

I would still contact Dell and see about getting them to fix it.

March 12th, 2005 22:00

I did not get any CD from Dell directly. I have donloaded the file from the Dell support page. CD image file. I have crated a bootable CD as advised to change from the Phoenix Bios to Dell Bios. There was no warning. And the Bios Version A22 was the lowest Bios Version on that page.

ussually you would need to flash to A22 and then to A32, however, I believe the CD they ship overcomes this

March 12th, 2005 23:00

Worst case should be a new motherboard.
