Actually, if you go to the intel site and download and install the 9.0.1.0 version, it works great...

Boppo.

Thank you very much indeed, plugged the card in connected the antenna fired upi8200 and pointed WXP to your 8.1.0.26 driver, all installed a treat and got a steady 54mbs.

Thanks again for your help. Martin.

Martin,

I am glad I could help you out. Lots of people are having problem with the 9.0 drivers, but  the ones using the 8.1.0.26 seem to be very happy like me.

thanks

Regarding the 8.1.0.26 drivers which are claimed to be the best for the Inspiron 8200...

Are y'all aware of this security notice from Intel? Has anyone using this driver experienced these problems?

http://www.intel.com/support/wireless/wlan/pro2200bg/sb/cs-016705.htm

Intel® PRO/Wireless 2200BG Network Connection
Possible Incorrect Data Transfer after Resuming from Suspend or Hibernate

Symptom:
After resuming from a suspend or hibernate state, follow-on network traffic may become corrupted over the Intel® PRO/Wireless 2200BG Network Connection. For example, an executable file might fail to run or a data file might not open or display its contents properly. In the event that data has been corrupted due to this failure, there may be no warning message or notice to the end user.

Driver versions affected: 8.1.0.25 & 8.1.0.26. No other software releases are affected.

Solution:
This issue was resolved in software versions with driver version 8.1.0.28 and later. This is a critical update, and users should upgrade to driver version 8.1.0.28 or later as soon as possible.

Download updated software for the Intel® PRO/Wireless Network Connection.

Operating System:
Windows* 2000, Windows* XP Home Edition, Windows* XP Media Center Edition, Windows* XP Professional, Windows* XP Tablet PC Edition

This applies to:
Intel® PRO/Wireless 2200BG Network Connection

I have seen this article, thanks. I do not have this problem at all and I use standby and hibernate all the time. When I use the 8.1.0.28 drivers my signal floats all over 1 to 54 Mbps. I will standby the 26 drivers until they come out with a newer/stable ones.

thanks

I have tried the 9.0.1.0 drivers and I can confirm that the fluxuation in speed also occurs for me. I am glad to hear that the 8.1.0.26 drivers do not create the problems reported by Intel consistently.

I would like to give tham a try, but they have been removed (presumably because of the problems reported). Can you send them to me (or provide a URL)?

Thanks,
Dick

I am at: rwk@americom.com if you can send them to be directly.

Please forgive me. I must be blind. I have searched all three pages and cannot find the post you refer to. Can you tell me what to search for to find it?

Thanks for your patience,
Dick

Boppo,

Got it, thanks!

I must not understand what "page 2" is becuse when I click "Jump to 2" below I cannot see what you just posted. In any case, I have it now and thanks again for your patience. I must be doing something wrong.

I am using Firefox, may it's a browser thing...

Best regards,
Dick

Boppo and Dick,

Where a message occurs in the forum depends on how you have your preferences set to view the forum.  Currently the message is on page 9, if you have your display preferences set to Threaded view and "Sort Messages by Latest Post Date in each Thread"  checked in Display preferences.  Since each user can have a different set of preferences set for the forums, it is generally a bad idea to refer to a message's location by page number.  Posting a link to the message will always get you there, however.
