Your mini-pci slot should accept any wireless mini-pci card.

yes, I have used the same card, and the most reliable replacement mini pci I have for 802.11G is the Intel Pro 2200BG. It's not very expensive ($30?) if you buy it from Dell, and I make sure all my wireless notebooks (those I configure for clients) use them.

strange, in my local Dell store it's named: "Intel PRO/Wireless 2200 WLAN (802.11b) miniPCI Card for Inspiron 510m / 8600 / 8600C / 9200 / 6000" and costs 76$

I'll try and write to my local Dell and ask if it's an error, or a different type of card.

it's not that far off ... I believe the 2200 designation is what
identifies the card. The BG part just means that it supports
B and G.

not to disagree but the 2200bg is one of the most problem-prone mpci cards on this forum and on notebookreview.  granted the new drivers help a lot, but I would recommend spending a bit more and getting one of the dell branded ones.
