I did call them last saturday. They made me upgrade my BIOS and said such an issue is nonexistent and they cant help much. Do you think I need to call again? And by the way, what do you think is the problem with?
a. Processor
b. Video card
c. Power/Battery

Thanks for the reply

Call Dell and arrange service; given this model line's reliability history, extend the warranty before yours expires.

If you haven't already done so, clean out the heat sink thoroughly with compressed dust-off compound.

Ok, I'll check out the manual thoroughly.
But basically, I've seen the manual earlier but couldnt find much on heat sink. Please help if u can by providing any relevant information for doing it.

Thanks

I did a google search on it and found
Do you recommend this procedure for Inspiron 5160?

I just checked out the mobile meter.
My processor started out at around 55 deg. Celsius (within minutes the of actual bootup)
It went around, 60/63 when I was surfing the web
When Idle, its back to 58.5 degrees.
I started SpellForce, gfx are going fine right now, the temperature is now in mid-70s (celsius)
Upon switching applications, temperature dropped to mid-60s
The 1FPS thing started after less than half hour since I started the game,
now ithe processor is at 75 degrees, HD temperature is on the rise, I also see a peak in the processor temp at 78 degrees, which might indicate the problem of 1fps. I guess the problem is primarily because of HD temperature, which is at 48 degrees and is on the rise.

I'll keep my observations posted after another hour.
Please let me know if the above procedure is recommended for Dell 5160
Thanks

take a can of compressed air and blow it into the air vent on the backside of the 5160. while your computer is off of course.

I'll do that,
To conclude for today, I hit an equilibrium of
73.5 degrees base temp. Processor <-- This causing the slowdown, as it seems
53 degrees Hard Disk
Thanks

After you have completed the recommended cleaning with a can of compressed air..may I suggest a modest investment in this device...it just might help your problem also...http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16834999413

Oh! I bought it within a month I bought my laptop.. It was good enough, but now I have a silly problem of the USB connector getting loose and not continually supplying cool air any more..

Good suggestion though. I dont have anything against LapCool2. Its useful. But it can only help to some extent.

This was taken after 4-5 hours of usage (with somewhat ironed-out laps)
