you've got s-video for tv out only.
unless you get third party hardware, you won't get tv on your laptop screen.

Thanks. I take it that such software does not exist. Such a pity, there are many times when I would prefer to view on my splendid little 15.4 " TFT.

 

The hardware does not exist in these notebooks for video in.  There are USB and PCMCIA hardware/software solutions that will injest video and display it on your lcd.

You need to investigate video capture devices that connect to your notebook either through the USB port or with an interface card that plugs into the PCMCIA port slots on the side of your notebook.  Either solution will come with supporting software - you connect your video source (camera, tv video, vcr, dvd, whatever) and it is digitized and displayed on your lcd.

First you need to pay for the cableI network and screw it on whatever gadget you decide to buy, I highly recommend Hauppauge brand.  I am currently watching TV, 100 chanels on my i8500 while surfing the net, no delay or interference whatsoever as they both seem to work independently.  I use Hauppage WinTV USB an old version but the picture is amazing, this cheaper one is far better than the more expensive Eye TV which I also have.

There is a problem with no sound as you know that i8500 has no LINE-IN to configure the sound. The solution is to use a pair of speakers and plug it to the LINE-OUT hole of the WinTV box.  Make sure of this feature if you choose to buy dif. brand name or you won't hear a thing.

Tiger-sea thanks for the input. I haven't been able to find any reviews on the WinTV USB. Having to use external speakers is a bit of a bummer.

When I have the extra cash I will likelly get the WinTV USB 2.0.

I do have an All-In-Wonder Radeon 7500 in my old deks top it it works really well.

I just picked up a WinTV USB2.0 at Cercuit City and it works fine. I don't have cable only an antena so the picture is so-so for me.  But the sound works fine, no ecternal speakers needed. I guess because the USB 2.0 bandwith is so muc greater than USB 1.1 it can do audio as well as video onver the USB 2.0 connection.

They also had an Adaptec DVD Media Center. I think it is USB 2.0 and firewire cappable, but not 100% sure.

i've been wanting to get a tv thing for my laptop also, i have a i8k.  i don't really mind plugging it in into my line-in, but i would prefer not to.  is there any tv boxes that will work on usb 1 and do the audio through it?  or is there one that runs through firewire?
