Changed the resolution now I can't get out of black screen!!

Question

Ok, this is a simple fix, I think, but I have no idea!   I was messing with the resolution of my screen, and went above what the monitor could handle. I get a black screen with 'Cannot display resolution' or something like that. I restarted in Safe Mode (F8) and all I got was a bunch of text on screen, never the actual interface. I restarted in Safe Mode with Networking, got to my desktop, changed the screen resolution back to default (1024) and then restarted the PC. It restarts, and I get the same error message 'Cannot display resolution'. I have read the fix by Dell:    If there is a problem rendering an image under the new settings, the screen may revert back to the original settings automatically. If the video has become corrupted or an Out of Scan Range error occurs that does not auto-correct, reboot the system. Press the key during the POST beep, highlight Safe Mode from the Startup Menu, and press the key to boot the system in Safe Mode. Once in Safe Mode, change the resolution back to the original settings and reboot normally. Try again with lower settings .   But I did that and it doesnt work!! I am typing from my work computer because I can't even get on my home PC! This is craziness!   Thanks all, Liz

I understand you went into safemode and all and redid your  ' settings ' to 1024. Just was wondering if after you set it to 1024 if you clicked on the ' apply ' button?   Also I am thinkin you might have Win XP running on your home PC. If you do then perhaps you can go back into safemode and do a ' system restore '.   1. Start   2. All Programs   3. Accessories   4. System Tools   5. System Restore   Try to restore your system to a day or even a week before you messed up the rez.   Hope this gets your machine back in order.
