If you got the 6000d system, you can upgrade to the x300 card, but if you got the plain 6000 with just the integrated video, you will never be happy.  You will never be able to upgrade, if you change your mind about some games that you might be interested in later.  Even with the x300 video, the games can be played, but not at the very highest setting, if that game is Far Cry and some of the other better games out today.  You can cancel the order and order later.  Just take sometime and think about this.  That integrated video will take some of the memory from your main memory, leaving you with less for other applications.  Other's with the integrated video only and those that have the x300 card will weigh in on your question about the DVD movies.

DVDs play fine with the I6000 on integrated graphics. Games are playable too. I've been playing HL1, HL2, UT2K4, and CS on mine.

When you say playable, you mean with the game settings set way down, and not anywhere near the highest ?  Integrated video, and that 6000 system is not really a gaming system, but yes, some games may play, but not to where you will have a better gaming experience.  And to add, if you are planning on gaming in the future, you will be very, very unhappy.....Read as much as you can from other's with the integrated video and you will learn that they are not getting a great gaming experience and wish for something better....However, if you are not into gaming, forget what I just said and enjoy the system..

It will play DVD's fine but with intergrated graphics you will have limitations especially gaming or runing any graphics intence software with no option to upgrade in the future. So it is somthing to consider if you want to just play DVD's, text edit and surf it is ok.But if you wan't the ability to photo and movie edit and and run graphic entence software or games i would not recomend any computer with a intergrated graphics card. You more less get what you pay for when it comes down to the Video card , Processor and Ram.

The Inspiron 6000 or 6000d's are in no way gaming machines period.

If you want a LT that will play games well, get a 9300 or go with a desktop like the 4700 or 8400.

I play all my games at either 1024x768 or 1280x800 with settings to either Low or Medium. Some points in HL2 are choppy (sometimes I set resolution to 640x480 during particularly stressful parts, but it's only gets smaller and quality stays the same), but I don't care. It's not a $2000 gaming machine, so I'm just happy to be able to play.

BTW, what's with the attitude SR45?

I apologize if I got the wrong feeling from reading your post...

DMB14, thanks for the reply, and again sorry for the wording that may have thrown you off a bit.

Some games really strain the GPU more than others do.

HL2 is one of them.

Try a lower setting in the other game, less details.

I was making a remark about about the comment that it was playable, which is a code word for, its OK or So, So, but not at the highest level, in which many want now days.  The original poster needed to know the difference between what playable is, and having a better gaming experience means.  Was not an attitude remark...Sorry you took it that way.

Sorry, I might have over-reacted a little.

I just played (well tried to play) CS: Source and it was not playable. I got like 3 FPS... It's weird, because I can play HL2.
