Looks like I discovered the problem -- I was sold another 440go card instead of the ATI 9000. Looks like I have issues with a vendor.

Where did you purchase the ATI 9000 mobile card?  Dell spare parts department no longer carries it.

I purchased the part at Impact computers. http://www.impactcomputers.com/ The part isn't that cheap -- but its a necessary purchase if your old one fails. There is about a $30 difference between the Geforce 440go  and the ATI 9000.

Hope this helps...

Wow, almost $230 shipped for a new ATI Radeon 9000 Mobility card.  I have a Geforce4 440 Go and it wasn't on the supported list of cards for the Dell 2005FPW 20" widescreen LCD I bought, so that was why I was inquiring.  I found a cheap alternative though.  Here's what I did:

1. Upgraded the Bios on the Geforce4 downloadable via Dell.
2. Upgraded the Geforce4 Windows XP driver provided by Microsoft through Windows Update (the Dell drivers are old, dated 2003)
3. Installed PowerStrip ( http://entechtaiwan.net/util/ps.shtm)

    a. Configured the secondary plug & play monitor as the 2005FPW
    b. Added the 1680x1050 custom resolution supported by the monitor natively

So now my card runs at 1680x1050 in Windows XP but it requires Powerstrip to be launched since the drivers don't support that resolution.  I hope this helps for anyone looking to solve this problem.
