Extended Desktop Help - Inspiron 8600 / Dell 2005FPW

Question

Hi everyone,I got my 2005FPW today. It has a native resolution of 1680 x 1050. I also have a Dell Inspiron 8600 w/ a ATI Mobility Radeon 9600 Turbo. The Inspiron also has a native res of 1680 x 1050. Anyway, I hooked my laptop via VGA-out to the 2005FPW's VGA-in. I turned on the 'Extend Desktop' option in Control Panel > Display > Settings. The extended desktop is working fine. Now the problem is: The laptop keeps its native resolution of 1680 x 1050 BUT the 2005FPW LCD work at 1280 x 1024 and I can't increase the setting to 1680 x 1050. The Dell 2005FPW's native resolution is 1680 x 1050 but It maxes out at 1280 x 1024 when put on dual display with my laptop. How can I fix this?   Thank you everyone!

I'm not sure, as I've never dealt with non-standard (not 4:3) ratio displays. Have you checked your monitor INF driver file for your second display in your Display Properties? Check to see if it just says something like "Default Monitor" or some generic term. Maybe if you install the Dell 2005FPW monitor INF file it will recognize the widescreen resolution for the monitor?

In display properties click on the 2nd display (your flat panel) go to advanced and check monitor.  You want to be sure your flat panel is detecting correctly.  If it isn't your full range of resolution options can be limited.
