Inspiron 9100, LCD Panel not working when OS loads after driver installed.

Question

My video card will not revert back to my lcd  panel after unplugging external monitor.  I have check the switch on the hinge panel at it seems to work fine.  Yesturday i lost the external monitor as well.  Had to reload only windows and everything worked fine using windows driver.  When i installed the Radeon mobility 9700 driver, it shuts down the lcd panel on only works on external monitor.  I didn't even have the monitior plugged in untill lcd panel went down.  I even used the old driver that came ont he disk with the laptop.  I know it worked cause i installed it before.  Im thinking maybe it was the new video bios that came out a month or so ago but dont know how to roll that back.  Exactly how it started, i had exteral monitor as primary screen, extended to lcd Panel on laptop.  I shut down computer and unplugged the external monitor,  When i powered back up, i could see everthing loading, but when it was suppose to go to desktop, screen went blank, but i could hear that it was suppose to be there.  Had to go back to office and hook up ext monitor to do anything.  Did do that before when i dissconnected monitor.  I go to display options and try to extend desktop and nothing on panel, cant make it primary either.  Under ati options i goto displays and it shows panel not there.  Hope this is enough info to explain my problem.  Please help, i use this everyday for my job!  My laptop is currntly a desktop being trap to the monitor.

Yes sir i did, it flickers the monitior for an instint, the nothing.  Thanks for reply

will it boot up in safe mode to desktop? you'll need to tap F8 at startup for the option.

Suggest you try uninstalling the video driver under add/remove programs whilst in safe mode.
Reboot the laptop then try reinstalling a freshly downloaded video driver in case the previous ones were corrupt.

As i said before,  I tried all that with the new drivers to no avail.  Then i formated hard drive and reloaded windows.  Everything worked fine untill i loaded the 9700 driver which i used the old drivers that came with computer this time and it did it again.  I know this old driver is good because i have used it before mutiple times.  Then i tried redownloading newest driver and instralled it.  No change. Ext monotor only.  thx for suggestion, but still looking for answer.  :)

Yes it will safe mode boot now, it wouldnt before i reloaded. But it will now. if i unplug ext monitor it will boot safe mode to lcd panel on laptop.

Still looking for help in this matter.  Soes anyone know how to roll back the video bios on the radeon 9700 mobility.  I look in the downloads but all i see is the newest.  Please help, i need this laptop mobile.  thx

I can't believe I found someone with an almost identical problem.  I'm the tech of the household and this is my husband's computer.  I don't know if he updated something or what but last Saturday (2 days out of my warrenty) the computer screen wouldn't come on. We let it sit for awhile and it worked later.  Then on Monday same thing only no recovery.  I can get it external the same as you.  I can get it in safe mode if I hit fn f3 to switch between external and laptop.  I called Dell and after running the gamet with them I reinstalled the whole Windows program and it would work if I pressed fn f3 as it was starting up.  Today I finished loading drivers that came with the computer.  As soon as I put the drivers on I lost the ability to use fn f3 in normal mode.  They told me I would need to replace the LCD display and components.  The LCD works when I can force it to come on.  This makes me think that it wants to use the external monitor as primary and then LCD as secondary.  Well, let me know if you found anything.  I'm begining to wonder if these things are set up to fail after the warrenty. My moms computer from Dell had to be repaired within 30 days of warrenty going out.
