Think im going to wait .Seems quite a few say gaming performence it is off the hook. But i read a lot about display leakage along with a few other problems and havent heard one post yet to say WOW this display is off the hook and dude when i put doom 3 or half life 2in this display comes to life and makes me drool all over my keyboard..It's all about the benchmarks... I can care less about bragging rights if i spend $4000.00 on a laptop gaming machine it will have to live up to all expectations especially the display, speed and performence along with off the hook video graphics. Where from what i read not mentioning any names but 17 inch display wise they blow the XPS gen 2 away. So for now i will awaite dell to adress theese issues and also wait for the upcoming new windows which will support 64 bit rather then 32bit and see what dell does being i don't feel it is too far away.
By no means please don't take this post the wrong way.The XPS gen 2 is a awsom machine .But in my case i have a XPS gen 1 and i feel to justify the upgrade to the XPS gen 2 Dell will have to adress the display and also it's all about the timeing i want a system that will support he upcoming 64 bit operateing system.Just my opinion guys and beleive me i am fighting the temptation of ordering one .I just can't justify at this present time. HAPPY GAMING

I don't blame you. My current laptop (Sony Vaio GRT170) is a generation behind yours it is too slow for most of the newer games. The ATI mobility 9800 in the Gen1 is an interesting chip since it is derived from the X series rather than the 9x Radeons. It should keep you gaming for awhile yet.
Well gang it came yesterday. As it turned out someone 3 or 4 houses down ordered a Dell desktop at the same time and the UPS person delivered both systems to him by mistake. Fortunately, the guy was nice enough to call me at work to let me know he had my laptop. I have not quite finished cleaning up the setup but using the 72.01 drivers from Dell I get a 3DMark2005 score of 4917 which is not too bad considering I only have 512MB of system ram.. I expect it to go over 5k after I install updated driver and tweak the system. I really should do a clean install but I doubt I will go to the trouble. BTW-I have the LG lcd and so far I think it looks great. I have not seen any of the screen defects other complain about. However, I am not really happy with the glossy screen as it is quite reflective.

Well I was able to get a 3DMark2k5 score of 5009 using the 76.50 driver whch is not too bad for 512MB of memory.
