Remove battery, use only AC adapter (vice versa, too).
Remove memory module(s) and put back (one at a time, if two).
Power up after doing each different way.
Also... is F2 keypress immediately after powering on, to get to BIOS setup, impossible? If any chance of getting in there you could at least check info seen there (HD existant, etc.) and if POST is set to Minimal (or similar) you could change that to Thorough (or similar) so that the system is certain to check itself.
I've tried turning it on with every possible combo of battery/ac. No luck. I've tried reseating the ram. No luck. I've tried turning on without the HDD. No luck. It doesn't even start booting so there is no way to get to the bios setup.
I bought the standard Inspiron 1000 two weeks ago and have the same problem, When i plug it in to the mains the green LED comes on but the power button does nothing, I have also tried removing the battery and nothing happens.
I own two other dell systems and loads at work with no problems ever, could it be a fault with this model?
I hope we get it solved soon as this was to be a gift to my mum.
