The Fn/F2 disables the laptop but not signals coming from the 2300 router.  The 2300 router is what is causing the interference.

My bad, I thought you were wanting to turn off the wireless card!

Have your looked on the Web interface of the router to see if there is a setting to stop broadcasting of the wireless signal?
I can't be more helpful than that as I don't use that router myself.

Yes, I did log into router from web interface but could find nothing (at least that I could understand) that would turn the router's signal off.

By the way I do appreciate your input on this.  I probably was not clear in my original post that it was the router's signal that was the problem.

Click on the Advanced Settings tab - then under Advanced Wireless, select the option to enable/disable the radio:

I have to admit the pop up warning message (failure of router, etc.) kept me from exploring there before receiving your reply.  I disabled Wireless and confirmed - Wireless indicator Router llight was off and no wireless signal detected by laptop - however the radio interence did not change.  Apparently the interference is due to other electronics in the router and not the actual wireless signal.  At least because of your reply I now know there is not an easy solution to my problem.  Thanks!

It would appear that your router is damaged. For the future - read the bottom of this link about sources of interference.
