I have no idea what the link is refering to, I feel that I am in the middle of a conversation. Could you post a link to what exactly Lavasoft has done. so I can understand the responses.
The way I understand it is, that since Lavasoft will stop assisting users of the free versions (if there are problems) , they will be dropped from ASAP.
I don't think it means Adaware will stop definitions, it will just stop technical support.
Hopefully, someone will start a board for AD-Aware free versions.
The problem with Ad-Aware FREE, was they did not give the option to give a donation, like other free products do. Instead, they offered a free, and premium version.
I would have donated, if Ad-Aware had a means of doing so.
I've donated to Spybot, Bazooka, and Spyware blaster a few times.
Thanks, that is about what I thought. I had gone to the Lavasoft web site and found nothing. I was also looking for the their posting that started the triade. I was able to do an update last night with no problem. I have used it, and Sypbot S & D for a few years, but when Microsoft got into the mix with their Anti Spy Ware tool the others became less useful. I have never needed support on Ad-Aware, so as of now it is a non issue. Limited or no support is the wave of the future. Dell moved it off shore to save money, as did many othe rcompanies. Little or non printed documentation is now supplied. First rule of business you at some point need to show a profit, unless those at Lavasoft have other jobs or are independently wealthly, maybe they felt that their old business model, support for a free product, was not working nor would it work iit ever work. A-SAP's dropping them is meaningless to me, since, in case no one remembers, I am not a big fan of them. I like many of the tools they use, and probably would like most or all of them as people, my problem is when they put on their A-SAP hat.
Since Lavasoft killed its support forum for users of the free version, it seems the volunteers there
have rallied and started other forums at various sites. You can find a links to most of these sites here:

I don't know what was in Lavasoft's mind, since it was a busy forum that helped a lot of users. But they sure
alienated a lot of the volunteers!
This was bound to happen .From the start the marketing policy gave the user a choice from a premium version and a free one both versions did not have any difference. Which the developer of Spybot started off with a free version and had a more open policy regarding their work .And to keep a website going you either need a very devoted fan base who are ready to make donations or you have enough funds to sustain your website.
Like sale pointed out with Microsoft anti spyware entering the fray with better support easier update and integration into windows the anti spyware market has become even more competitive and has eaten into the profits of the older anti spyware developers like ad aware and spybot.Companies have to change according to the market conditions to survive and that's what they did .But the abrupt shutting down of the lavasoftsupport site left a lot of people disgusted like the phantomphixer "I did a post and asked what was with the changes and the new people higher up , they thought it was safer to remove the whole lava lounge than reply"http://members.accessbee.com/mitch/PhantomPhixer.html http://members.accessbee.com/mitch/fullpost.html
