inspiron 6000 and external monitor

Question

hi i just received my inspiron 6000 laptop and was able to (1) get it to work with my new external dell 19inch lcd. (2) now i am trying to get it to work with my old 19in sceptre monitor but no luck.  (3) The 19in sceptre monitor is working on my desktop and i would like to now use this monitor as my external monitor on my new laptop.  (4) I am unable to get this monitor to power up once i connect it to the inspiron. (5) It powers up fine when it is connected to my desktop however.     any help please??   -MIKE

i should clarify a bit...when i said 'power up' i meant that i get the green light on the monitor...when it won't power it, it is an orange light ...the monitor itself is getting powr from the outlet since it is plugged in.   thanks again, mike
