Running Linux ONLY: how do I update a BIOS? (Latitude CS400XT)

Question

Hi there! - I have a single-boot Latitude CS400XT with bios A07 running an old Red Hat Linux 8.0 build. - I need to get a BIOS that supports WOL (wake on Lan) so I can remote boot the PC with a PXE version of Linux...   so...   a) Can anyone tell me how to update a BIOS under Red Hat Linux 8.0? b) Can someone tell me if their is an updated BIOS for this box that will in fact support network-booting c) I also could not find in the BIOS list what looked like the correct image?   Any help is most appreciated! Thanks! Mark

DOS BOOT floppy disk with the BIOS .exe file on it. NO need to ever go to the HDD for a BIOS update so the OS installed on the HDD doesn't matter.

Hi,

Your machine would have come with a floppy that runs from a cable to the IDE port, same as a CD. You wont be able to boot from a USB drive. The floppy drive is a " C " series drive, and the cable is a 10NRN if that helps. If you have a CD drive, you can make a bootable CD and update the Bios with it.

A C-series Floppy will also work with a Parallel Port Cable for the Floppy only
