My first Hijackthis?

Question

My question is I have a 2 month old computer'Dell Dimension XPS Gen 4' 2 GB ram. with a cable modem. I had a cable modem on my last computer which I feel is faster than my new one.I run adaware.spybot,counterspy,microsoft anti spyware and run anti virus often.They do work but I though I would try hijackthis so maybe someone could possibly see if something is wrong with my computer? Hi and welcome.

Please move your HJT program to your C:\ drive. C:\HJT is a good place.

Your log shows nothing that would slow your connection down that I can see.

Now open your HJT program and tick these entries:

O3 - Toolbar: (no name) - {BA52B914-B692-46c4-B683-905236F6F655} - (no file)

Now with all programs closed except HJT hit the FIX button.

Reboot and post a new log.

Pat,
Besides the fact that your HJT program isn't directly in it's own folder on C:\drive I see no problems.

We think that it "could be" Norton slowing you down.

Steve           Norton 2005 killed my old computer,,Windows office 2000 has a option where you can install things on your computer or run it from disk.I am going to try that with norton..just leaving the important thind..anti virus firewall etc..Thanks again   Pat

With 2 gigabytes of RAM on a XPS Gen 2, Norton is probably not the problem.  Actually I never have found NAV to be a problem on any PC I have ever used.  First step in solving a problem is to analyze the problem.  Step one, check the network speed, go to http://www.dslreports.com on the left side of the web page you will see 'Tests + Tools' click it, on the next page near the bottom, you will see 'Speed Tests' click 'go' and follow the instruction.  This test will help you decide if you are actually having any download speed problems.   Step two, use the 'Task Manager' to determine what and if anything is using excessive resources.  To paraphrase Yoda 'Don't guess, test.'

I have learned in several places, by several people and training sites.

In fact I am still learning....:)There is always new malware coming out, newer and improved. More difficult to get rid of.

They target the tools that we use to clean them, trying to figure their weak spots and vulnerabities and pray upon them. Therefore those tools are always being updated to the new malware that is popping up.

Steve              Thanks for the links,I was curious how or where did you learn about the hijackthis, like reading my Log..how can youn tell what is wrong?   msgale           I have been to dslreports.com and other sites and my computers is usually the fastest one on the charts.
