I'd very much like to help if I can because you and I have identical systems and networks right down to the model # of computer, wireless NIC, and router.
What are you using to "manage" wireless...WXP or the manager software that comes with the 22BG?
My Intel 2200BG connected to the Linksys WRT54g is rock solid, but I did not use the Intel disk to install the software. When the 600m detected the Intel, I used an older 2200 disk that has the drivers on it and let WXP install those TWO FILES ONLY ... none of the Intel supporting programs.
Perhaps it is these supporting programs that are unstable?
I am having the same problem with my inspiron 6000 laptop using the 2200. The wireless connection is erratic and sometimes drops intermittenly. I went the many threads on the topic and tried what others have suggested including using the Win2K driver and uninstalling the IntelPro wireless manager. I seem to get the same result whether the wireless is managed by XP or Intel sw. Running out of ideas. Bad card?
Man, if I knew it was this much pain I would have stayed with XP HOme and just hack the OS for domain login. That was pretty much what I wanted it. Can't recall if the wireless worked better in its original form.
I have to defend the card. It's the most reliable mini pci I've ever used for this, and when I bought a second notebook, I made sure it had one.
Still, if one thing doesn't work for you then you have to try something else.
Simon, yes I'm thinking it's just a really cr4ppy card. I'm thinking my dropping problem might have something to do with interference in my house - there seems to be a correlation between people turning on and off electric devices in my house and the wireless dropping, but I'll write more if I find out that's definitely the case, and either way it takes ages to recover from it, and it's definintely the case that the longer the machine has been on the worse it gets.
reinstalled using the 8.1.0.28 driver and works good so far. No problem w/ hibernation or in standby mode. Is there a way to keep the Intel sw and use the older driver? anyone tried this? I do like the functionality and look of the Intel pro sw.
Like you, I also liked the functionality of the Intel software, but it's huge... 22+ megs as I recall and redundant given that XP is perfectly happy to manage the connection for you.
In my case, when ever I reset my notebook, I let XP detect it, then when it asks for the driver I put in the old CD that came witht the first one I bought... this causes XP to move whatever driver files it needs off the CD WITHOUT installing all the Intel extra stuff.
I suppose the thing to do now is to find the actual drivers XP gets off that disk and make them available to the people who seem to be having trouble.
Don't uninstall the driver, just uninstall the whole device. Go to your device manager, then highlight the 2200BG, right click then click on Uninstall. That should do it.
God forbide if I have to call Dell and get this replaced. It's a freaking nightmare going thru the phone.
Sorry for the lame q, but is there a way to get this replace thru email. Don't want to hold on the phone.
I spoke too soon. That driver I installed (and recommended) just started to act up again just like the others. It ran fine for about a day which is much better than other drivers I've tried but now it's doing the same thing. It speed started to go up and down.
I was hoping this would be the fix but guess not. Is this hardware issue?
What are the exact filenames you deleted. Stupid me, I thought I was running the older driver and never bothered to look at the version. Until you pointed that out, I was runnning 9.0.0.61. Perhaps, we can do this and use the intel pro sw at the sametime.
Hm, from what I can tell removing it from Device Manager doesn't actually remove the driver - at least for me Windows kept a copy of the device driver file and reinstalled the _latest_ one even when I ran the old setup program, so I had to manually delete the old files (the .inf and .sys from everywhere in C) _then_ reinstall the driver using a manual driver install.

the WRT54g is a wireless router... a hub is a very specific piece of
networking equipment seldom used anymore.

It suggests uninstalling the Intel ProSet software which I've done and it all starting going screwy again on schedule.
Could you let me know what version of the drivers you're using, or maybe put them online somewhere?
Any help much appreciated.
