Wouldn't we be better off without Quickset? I think quickset is not a must software in the first place. I mean, if it could be a cause of any problem, then, I'd rather live without it. Pure windows xp sp2! That's the way to go. How many guys agree with me?
I'm having the exact same problem too. Called dell tech support, they were useless. Took 20 min just to communicate my service tag number. Back to square one. Sounds like a widespread problem. I wish dell would look into this and offer us a fix.
I uninstalled the Dell Quickset app that came with the laptop and now I can come out of Stand By! It is one of the apps controlling nic settings and also power management settings. I'm guessing Dell's quickset (ver 3.6) doesn't work well with the Broadcom nic or the Intel 2200 nic.
i am going to try installing the latest version of quickset first. if it doesn't work then, i'll just uninstall it.
thank you for bringing up this problem! i have been trying to get an answer for this for days!
dell really should look into it, especially after i dropped $1400 for this laptop with service and warranty. i worked in a chemical plant that blew up twice while i worked there just to get money for this thing (and college...).
I uninstalled Quickset and the problem is over... My software version was 3.9.4... DELL should work on the issue in the next version. Hope it works better in the future!
Disregard my previous message... it worked for few minutes, then I just tried it again and the laptop when off again... Freakin' XPS system... so expensive and having problems so stupid...
DELL FIX THIS BUG!!!
Probably a class-action law-freakin-sssssuuuuiiiittttt will get them to work on it... In the end everything is about money...

I uninstalled quickset a few weeks ago, the problem did get considerably better, but the machine still hangs once in awhile..
