Issue with 700m startup

Question

My problem is that when I go to startup my (NEW!) 700m now, the on light comes on and the CDROM starts to spin, however, that is all that happens, no screen or anything. For a while it would come back and work if I tried to turn it off and on again, but this doesn't work either now. This is very frustrating as I just got the computer 3 months ago and was on hold with Dell for 45 minutes to establish that I had to pay them $40 for their help because its a software issue supposedly instead of a hardware issue, which is covered by warrantee. Please help me if you know what is going on, otherwise I will have to wait on hold and then talk to tech support again.

I think this is more of a hardware issue. Are you sure it is the cd-drom drive that
spun up?

Try attaching an external monitor to your laptop, then power up.

If still nothing, then try to reseat the memory sticks.

that can't be a software issue. windows is loading? even if is  a windows problem they should be able to help you with windows.   what you can do is reseat everything take out battery, memory hard drive, cd drive and any mini pci card.. Message Edited by Raicard on 04-27-2005 02:59 PM

Yeah it was a memory issue, still trying to find ot if its the RAM or the slot... took me three hours with a dell chat rep...
