XMorpheus,

What type of monitor do you actually have?  Not that it should matter, however, since you can always use "Plug and Play Monitor" as the default without problems.

Have you allowed it to "automatically select" the best device for you when detecting the monitor?  If so, it should at least come up with "Plug and Play Monitor".  If not, have you tried to get the .inf file from your manufacturer's website and then installing that when prompted?

My inspiron is a laptop- so its not plug and play. When I use the monitor control panel, it says that it is an unknown device, but the driver is fine.

Hehe, I do not mean to be patronizing in any way, but I don't think you are really describing what is going on.

Let's start here:

what type of video card do you have?

Is it properly installed?

What is the EXACT indication that your monitor is not "installed"? (in device manager?  Is it yellow ! or Red X?, etc.)

I am willing to help, but I can't quite understand what your exact problem.
