I4000: Latest ATI driver does not save extended display correctly

Question

Hello, I am using my I4000 with an ATI M3 graphics card as follows: primary display: external TFT monitor 1280 * 1024 * 32 extended display: internal panel 1024 * 768 * 16 I have saved these settings using the Displays page on the ATI settings. However, when I reboot the machine, extended display functionality is lost, and I have to struggle in order to have Windows XP accept to extend the display as I want again (and I stall haven't yet found the exact sequence of things to do to get it right from the first time; most of the time, when I click on the 'extend my destktop onto this monitor' checkbox, the system attempts to configure the displays, but comes back to the default settings and the checkbox is cleared again !); recalling the ATI saved settings does not restore the displays as expected. I am using the latest ATI driver found on DELL downloads section (R54236) (the one that says 'This release fixed the following issues: - Extended desktop is disable after a reboot.'   Any suggestion ?

I have to add that this is a fresh install, so I installed Windows XP (retail version) (no driver update from Windows Update) then immediately installed R54236.

So I the system does not carry a long history of video driver versions.

Do you still recommend de-installing and reinstalling it again ?

Thank you for using the Dell Community Forum.

Please try uninstalling the driver from Add/Remove Programs in the Control Panel, and then reinstall the latest version. ATi drivers do not always update if the old driver is in place.

benoitm, At this time I have nothing else to suggest.  I do suggest that you reinstall the driver, in case there is a problem with the initial installation.
