Is Windows fully up to date on critical patches?

Do you have current, real-time antivirus and firewall proteection?

Have you scanned for and removed all spyware?

Have you run the Dell diagnostics on the system, particularly an extended test on the hard drive and RAM?

Boot, press F12 if they're still on disc, and run from there. Otherwise, boot from the diagnostics and drivers CD that came with the system.

Once you've updated your antivirus,, boot and scan from Safe Mode.

First off-thank you kindly for your help. I've completed all updates, cleans and Dell diag's and system runs smoothly now. However, when I boot up neither the Dell setup screen or the Windows XP startup screen don't show on my LCD, it's still black and white blotches with some color lines running thru. When XP load gets to the welcome screen it's fine. When I plug in an external monitor-the Dell screen and the XP startup both show up on the monitor but not the LCD?? Any suggestions as why? or how to fix? Is there anything like LCD firmware or something? Thanks again for your help.

Reseat, replace if necessary, the flex cable between the video card and display. If the issue persists, the LCD is faulty.

tried, and still no go. i'm thinking that maybe the screen may not be compatible with my I8200. The screen I installed is the Hitachi SXGA+ TX38D99VC1CAA which i see usually goes with the Lattitude 6? series or the I8100. The original screen that I pulled out was a Hitachi TX38D97VC1CAA.
