I have the same problem on a SX280 here, i use a Dlink DGS-1008D.

I reinstalled the machine from scratch, installed all windows patches and finally got into the same problem: NIC works for a while and after 10 or 15 minutes it disconnects, the NIC shows an enormous amount of packets send (13 numbers) which is impossible.

Since the problem reappears and my switch didn't change, i guess it's some software conflict ?

I just tried installing broadcom's driver since it's more recent then the one on dell's download page...

Now let's wait if this solves it...

I was able to work a couple of hours with broadcom's driver, kept my connection status window open, saw it jump again from normal numbers to astrological numbers and all apps. disconnected.

So the newest broadcom drivers do not solve the problem.

I had a discussion about this with Dell technical support.

I could make sense to reinstall the machine with WinXP (sp2) - the Dell CD - but without automatic updates and patches, to detect if there is a software conflict with a microsoft patch. (unlikely)

However this machine also crashed a few times during the last month: hardware malfunction, NMI: parity check/memory partition error.  (Dell utility partition showed/shows no hardware errors).

For both problems Dell techsupport decided to immediatly replace the motherboard.

In the meantime i will set the NIC to 100mbit full duplex and i hope this will hold it for the time being ...

Try taking off the cable cover at the back, you should no longer get this error and the other problems you were getting. Just tried it and it worked like a charm.

Hi,

Which cable cover are you referring to?

I'm having this problem on half a dozen PC's and really want to get to the bottom it.

Thanks in advance

he is refering to the only cable cover their is, it like covers all the connections to the back of the system, however I have also seen the nmi parity error.  and by unplugging the system, clearing pwr it fixes it.  For a more perminant fix I would check bios versions and make sure ur up to date.

I have gone back and forth will Dell support several times, they are no help.

I have ruled out EVERYTHING on this device, I have swapped gigabit switch, booted in safe mode with networking, unplugged mouse/keyboard, swapped monitor, ALL 7 OF OUR SX280's crash when in Gigabit speed with the exact symptoms as you have described.

Does anyone have an answer?  Dell support will not admit their product is faulty.  By the way, the boot on the network cable is not an answer.

Upgrading firmware doesn't help (tried 3 revisions), updating Broadcom driver from Dell doesn't help, upgrading Broadcom driver from Broadcom doesn't help

I too have 2 SX280's out of 12 that give the error NMI: Parity Check Memory parity error The system has haulted.

Dell replaced one mother board and it came back with the same problem.

Has anyone found the solution?

Thanks

The new Dell motherboard completely solved my problems.
No more Memory parity errors,
no gigabit NIC going into hyperdrive any more.
