OK I did apply the patch you mentioned and indeed it works. Thanks.
Good to see there is responsive and competent people around here.
fyi - for my external USB 2.0 HDD, I had to add the second USB cord (for power).
Looks like not enough power through the USB 2.0 PCMCIA adapter card. Via the USB 1.1
(directly connected onto motherboard ?), this additionnal cord was not necessary.
btw - i have another question but more related to WinXP, may I shoot it to you Bacillus ?
OK thanks Bacillus.
I did purchase an external USB2.0 HDD (Seagate) which I connect through the DUB-C2 to my Inspiron 2600.
Using Seagate diskmanager, I did create 3 partitions.
Using Windows XP Home SP1, I did create 3 users: Dad, Mom, Kids.
I want Mon to have only access to partition 2, Kids to have access only to partition 3. So I go to the related drive and right-click to get the 'Sharing...' tab in order to check the box 'Make this folder private'. Unfortunetaly, the box is grey, i can't access it.
Plus the following:
1/ partitions created are NTFS
2/ 'Server' service (Administrative Tools_Services&Applications) is started.
3/ when i go to Tools_Folder Options_View_Advanced Settings, I do not have the option for unchecking the 'Use simple file sharing (recommended)'. This option simply does not exist on my PC (maybe only WinXP Pro ?).
So am running out of ideas. Any help welcome. Thanks.
Bugs bunny, you definately will need WinXP Pro to do what you want. With the Home version, Microsoft thinks that you wouldn't need this or know how to use it. The only available option is the simple share where you can not set up restrictions. It is all or nothing.
