yea i know but it only says hibernate and stand by, when i first got the laptop when i closed the lid the screen would turn off. It was on but with the screen off, then when i opened the lid the screen would turn back on. Now when i close it,it stays on and doesnt turn off and kills the battery

Those are the options, yes. I'd suggest you have something running that is preventing hibernation. For example, I use Quicken and it stops the hibernation.
no i dont want it to hibernate,i want it to turn off the screen when i close the lid. Let me clarify, I put the options in power options to hibernate when i close the lid to test if the button thing works. It worked so i know the button thing isnt damaged. I just want the screen to turn off when i close the lid on the notebook
i know it uses it but i want it to last longer, i am going out of state and where i am going the electricity goes out whenever the bums at the powerhouse want it to so i need to use the ac adapter less. With the screen off while its close it would use less battery power. i will be walking around because where i am going theres always a place to be

You want the screen to turn off but the computer to still be running? How does this not use the battery?
no no no, it did when i put it too to test if the button worked. When i first got my I8600 when i closed the lid the screen turn off. Then when i open the screen back up the screen would turn back on. Now it stays on even though i closed the lid. I want it to be like when i brought it,it would turn the screen off when i close the lid

Sorry, but I don't understand you. When you close the lid it goes into hibernation. Screen is turned off, computer uses minimum power to maintain settings. That's as low as it goes.

You have something running that is preventing hibernation, it's that simple.
lol no no no, It CAN hibernate if i put the options to do it but i dont want it to hibernate. I want the screen to turn off when i close the lid. It use to do it but not anymore
In your power options, under the advanced tab, there is a drop down menu for "When I close the lid of my computer:". In there, there are three options - Do nothing, Standby, or Hibernate. If you set it to Do nothing, the screen should turn off when you close the lid.

It's unclear to me what you're asking help for. Under Power Options in the Control Panel there is a setting for what to do when the lid closes.
