OK, I was looking at the new T41 by IBM, it is very similar to dimensions and weight to the 600M, even with the same exact features, the IBM's price comes out a LOT MORE! Why?
What is in it, that they make it so expensive, I know it has a trackpoint, keyboardlight, new ANTI-HARD DRIVE SHOCK Technology, WHAT ELSE! Does anyone know? Thanks
They have a review on the T41, I saw the video (LINK ON TOP RIGHT) and the guy literally twisting the laptop upside down and stuff like a Paper Notebook, it was so small and light.. Is this how the 600M is? or is this more 300M's terriroty? It seems the Dimensions are same as 600M, if the 600M is this small, than the 300M has gotta be TINY!
BTW, there a review of X300 (more or less a 300M) at AnandTech (the keyboard, at least the layout, seems much more improved, but the size is still relatively small), there is also an article about IBM's new APS.
If money is not a matter, I'll pick a T41 over any other Dell model today, not too heavy, excellent performance and battery life... But I think the performance/price ratio Dell offers is pretty attractive.
Seriously, IBM's track record in notebook design, build quality and support is renowned, esp. on its high-end models like the T-series. Some people are more willing to pay a (sometimes hefty) premium for one.
I've used a notebook (also made by Samsung) with similar size and weight to 300M before and yes, it's really light and small! But, the small and awkard keyboard was not quite satisfying.
No I was comparing the T41 to the 600M, Cuz I changed my mind.. The Dimensions are same and the T41 looked Very Small in that video, so is the 600M as small..
But I saw the D600 and it weighs less and has a trackpoint for Similar price, so why not get a D600 over th 600M? Can I get it? How do I buy thru Small Business.
I don't think you need anything special to get a Latitude, here the Latitude is priced higher than the Inspiron but I'm not sure what's it in the US.
BTW, a review of D600, a review of 600m, another review of 600m, all from C|Net. You can find a lot more on the Net.
I just configured two similiarily configured D600 and 600m and the D600 turned out to cost about $250 more.
BTW, if you are to get the D600 or 600m, remember to order the extra MODULAR battery not primary if you intend to use both at the same time. Unlike elder Dell notebooks, the primary and modular bay battery are now different.
Also make sure you get a 5400RPM HDD (or possibly, 7200RPM), a 4200RPM HDD will greatly hinder the performance.
Get 64MB video RAM if you intend to game on your machine.
(A quick check showed the D600 has a dimension of 1.2" x 12.4" x 10.1" at 4.68lbs (with 4-cell primary battery, 14.1" screen and no optical drive) and T41 at 1.0" x 12.2" x 10.0" and 4.9lbs (with battery and no optical drive), note that you will probably want the 6-cell primary for the D600 therefore they pretty weight more or less the same, and the IBM is a tag thinner.)
- BTW, if you are to get the D600 or 600m, remember to order the extra MODULAR battery not primary if you intend to use both at the same time. Unlike elder Dell notebooks, the primary and modular bay battery are now different.

So are you saying theres a special port in the back for a extended Battery? So I dont need to take the optical drive out or the current standard battery?
For the HDD matter, you may like to check this link out.
What I meant was that, unlike in your I8000, the modular battery WILL NOT fit in the primary battery bay. In 600m and D600, the primary and modular battery are physically incompatible.
Is there any new Inspiron Models coming out anytime soon?
Or Any other laptops I should consider that are coming out..
I really want a trackpoint and also I dont wanna buy a 600M now and realize that 2 months later a 700M or something came out for same price and more features..

first off you sure do ask a lot of questions d600 and 600m are just about exactly identical. the d600 has a smartcard reader where the 600m does not. that radeon 9000 would kill your 7500. also of course in two months or however long another computer will come out at the same price point (or even lower ) but what do u expect? u wait for the next one to come out and then you have the same problem all over again. I got both the X200 and my X300 is coming (hopefully next week) i am able to play sims on the integrated chip, but not much else. two inspirons coming out in the Q1'04 are the inspiron 9100 and the inspiron xps, but neither of them will be as light or small as you want. also a source has already confirmed that the dothans will be coming out in feb/march 04 so if you buy a banias now, you WILL be regretting it in a few months. however, like i said, just get what you want and be happy with what you got instead of what you could have gotten. i wouldnt trade my c840 for nothing. (even though 2MB cache would be GREAT

I bought my 4150 last September fully known that Pentium-M is coming next year (that's, 2003) and is more preferable to me. However, after considering the above two questions for some time, I got the 4150.

Ya I ask way too many questions, I knew someone would bring it up, its just I get so frustrated and write things down so I dont forget, hoping someone will have a answer.. By The way I got more
1. What is the SmartCard Reader?
2. So are you saying the 600M has Radeon 7500 and the D600 has Radeon 9000? If so, Are you saying the 32 MB 9000 is better or equal to the 64 MB 7500?
3. I looked up Dothans and it seems like it has more cache, is Banias the Current Pentium M?
4.Do you think it is that big of a difference with more Cache? What is it helpful in? Will it help games... I am willing to wait and not in a hurry and I looked it up and it said they are only $40-50 more per chip than the current Banias..
5. But how long do you think it will be before a new laptop comes with this chip built in? Will it be a while until its fully integrated and comes in a small laptop like the 600M?
6. Also I see you like Latitudes over Inspirons, could u explain why?

that's ok. i like to make an informed decision also since these things arent just pocket change. ask away - that's what these forums are for
1. What is the SmartCard Reader?
nothing important yet. size of about a credit card and they can hold anything from bank information to whatever else
2. So are you saying the 600M has Radeon 7500 and the D600 has Radeon 9000? If so, Are you saying the 32 MB 9000 is better or equal to the 64 MB 7500?
both have radeon 9000s - i was actually comparing to the 7500 in your 8000
3. I looked up Dothans and it seems like it has more cache, is Banias the Current Pentium M?
yes banias is current P-M. dothans have twice as much at 2MB
4.Do you think it is that big of a difference with more Cache? What is it helpful in? Will it help games... I am willing to wait and not in a hurry and I looked it up and it said they are only $40-50 more per chip than the current Banias..
heck yes it will be a big difference. it will be extremely helpful in games.
5. But how long do you think it will be before a new laptop comes with this chip built in? Will it be a while until its fully integrated and comes in a small laptop like the 600M?
the new chip is scheduled to come out feb/march 04 so notebooks should be coming out at the same time. most likely it would be in a notebook as small as the 600m because it is still sold on the concept as "light and portable" with an emphasis on battery life.
6. Also I see you like Latitudes over Inspirons, could u explain why?
latitudes are the same as the inspirons. the majority of latitudes and inspirons are "sister" systems. d800=i8600, d600=600m, x300=300m, d500=500m. latitudes are considered to be "business oriented" while inspirons offer customization options such as different vid cards while the same latitudes do not. for example, on the i8600 you can choose from a variety of vid cards while the d800 cannot. bottom line is in my opinion the current "silver" inspiron series is UGLY while the latitudes are stylish and better looking. i could have gotten a 300m for less, but then i would be stuck with that tacky blue - especially when the mediabase color matches the x300 color (imagine that). plus if you buy through small business, you will be covered by dell's relationship support rather than "consumer support" which is horrible. just my two cents. by the way, spend an extra $269 and get THREE YEARS of COMPLETECARE. i cannot stress that enough - very very important and very very worthwhile.
THANKS A LOT!
no prob

Whats the Difference between the X300 and 300M?
&
Whats the Difference between the D600 and 600M? - The D600 is actually Lighter for same options, and it has the trackpoint that I want.
But only Small Business has it, WHY!
And if I buy from Small business Department, what do I have to prove?
I do own some small business'es if that matters.

How do I know what the speed of each hard drive is? What does the D600 or 600M have?
I heard 5400 vs. 4200 is a big Loss in Battery Power

I Think the 600M is the better choice, but below are the goods and bads of the D600:
GOOD:
Trackpoint
Lighter
Has built in Dual Antennas for WiFi
BAD:
More $$$ than 600M
Have to buy from Small Business
I actually like the Blue on the 600M Better, and I guess you cant change the Quicksnaps like on 600M
Video Card only goes to 32 MB
ANY OTHER GOODS OR BADS, with 600M vs. D600
The only reason I was even considering the D600 is because I like the trackpoint, The trackpoint itself, could just be my leading decision choice..
