Inspiron 1100 shut down itself after half hour use

Question

My two years old Inspiron from time to time shuts down itself after 30 minutes to one hour in use. The symptom is that it ran very slow then black out. I notice it was hot at the bottom. Could be 100 F. Not as hot as burned. I have laptop stand to help air circulation at the bottom. That still does not help. Does anyone have idea how to diagnose the root cause and resolve it? Thanks. Hello all, and thanks for your time! :) I have just now registered for this msg. board so I could seek out some help on this very subject (Inspiron 1150 shut down abruptly just now after about 45 minutes of use)..... can anyone tell me (please don't laugh at my ignorance!) just where the 'heat sink' is? thanks so much! ;)

I opened up my Inspiron 5100 and blew the dust out, seems to be working better. Hasn't shut down by itself. We'll see how long it lasts!
