It's two channels!
If you want to use 5.1 surround speakers then you will have to buy an external USB soundcard something like the Creative Extigy.
does that mean i wont be able to support the subwoofer when i plug in just the green headphone jack? i dont want to spend another $50 on a 5.1 external card because all i want is just 2.1 sound. im only buying the 5.1 so that i can use it on my TV too.

Jim

The difference in sound quality between this and my 600m, or any other notebooks audio is absolutely astonishing.
I run the output from the card through my home audio and the sound is amazing as opposed to running it direct from the audio jack. Thre is even a noticeable improvement when outputting the cards audio to a simple jbl on tour speaker as opposed to using the dell output.

yeah i was thinking about getting that but $100 is too expensive...all i want is a simple sound system for my bedroom (quite small if you ask me), all i wanted is just to play some music from my laptop in 2.1 sound because i just want regular PC speakers and a sub for the deep bass. im only buying the 5.1 setup because imma hook it up to my TV and PS2 also..
so i dont really need the sound card because as long as i can shake the walls of my house and make my dad REALLY REALLY mad in one try, that's how i know i have a REALLY good sound system...
