Dell Inspiron XPS Won't Power Up :(

Question

I purchased this system a year ago. I used it quite frequently (at least once a day). I never had a problem before. Then a week after my warranty expired it stopped booting up (no lights or activity of any kind). I've also noticed that it won't charge the battery either, as when i push the button on it to see if it's charged at all none of the 5 lights light up. I don't use my battery so i had kept it in storage and discharged. So i couldn't test to see if my laptop would power up using it. Any suggestions?   -=nathan

Try reseating everything removeable - if it still won't boot, call Dell.

I've taken every component out and tried to get it to power up, it wouldn't. I've also removed everything, and reseated every component, it still wouldn't power up. Dell told me to do the same. Is it the power supply in the computer that has been fried? Is this something i can do myself? I don't want to pay a tech 80.00/hr to perform repairs if it's something i can do myself. You can try the power supply first, as it's relatively inexpensive.

The other component that could be faulty is the mainboard - which isn't so inexpensive.

Dell will likely charge about $500 for the mainboard (part only) - the same board goes into the 9100; this one is slightly less expensive.
