Did you turn it on by rightclicking your wallpaper, going to properties> Settings tab> leftclicking the #2 moniter then hitting the "Extend my windows desktop onto this monitor" mark then hitting apply. Also, is your television on the right input setting.

Just hold "Fn" and press F8

Yes, you can do that also but it doesn't make 2 separate screens  between the 2 monitors.

I'm having the same problem as well. Know it's not a problem with the TV hookup as I successfully hooked up a camera to the TV using same RCA jacks. I'm trying S-video to RCA plugs on the TV.

Fn F8 makes the screen flash black once then nothing else happens.

Dual Display Clone -> Monitor + Notebook doesn't keep the check after I click on it.

Going into the graphics controller properties from Control Panel, doesn't list the TV as an option, as suggested in the user guide.

Not sure what else to try. Are there particular screen resolution settings you are using if you have gotten this to work? Thanks for any help.

wait wait wait!..

you are using a s-video to rca cable? that would never work pal...

on dell systems.. you need a real s-video cable.. or the dongle (dongle works better, some s-video cables doesn't do the work for some reason)

there's two cables that can be used...

  • S-Video Port Splitter Cable Kit, Dell part number : 108HW
  • One way connector, Dell part number : R0896
  • call spare parts and check it out (800-357-3355)

that's the point of the dell dongle.. the port on the back is not just a regular s-video...
the dongle contains the digital audio output...  s-video doesn't have audio on it.. you can connect the speakers directly to the laptop or something.. but that's it..

So just to make sure I understand, you can't hook a cable that's a regular s-video on one end and RCA cables on the other end to a TV and even expect to see just video? I knew the audio wouldn't work that way, but thought video might.

I'm trying to get my laptop to hook to a TV that only has RCA plugs. How would you do this or is this possible? Thanks for the help.
