Dell is not big on keeping up with the lastest drivers...  If you want to keep up-to-date you'd be better off getting some modded reference drivers from somewhere like omegadrivers.net.   They've always worked fine for me, and if you do run into trouble you can always go back to the drivers from dell's support downloads.

I am currently trying to update my xps gen 2 with a 6800 Go Ultra to the latest drivers. I'm using version 77.77 from nvidia's website. I have tried other versions. When I attempt to install the driver is gives the error "The NVIDIA Setup program could not locate any drivers that are compatible with your current hardware. Setup will now exit." Any ideas on how to get the latest drivers?

Thank you I will try that as soon as I get home. My real question is why does the official nvidia drivers not work?

I am playinf bf 2 on my XPS Gen 2 flawlessly with the latest drivers from Dell's site.  I have tried other tweaked and modded drivers which will give maybe a couple more FPS and higher 3d marks but I also find quite a few tweaked or moded 3 rd party drivers buggy. So for me I choose to stick with the latest from Dell which work fine and run stable on my machine.  I am not one for 3d benchmarks when gaming I want drivers that perform and are stable. If you are haveing roblems playing BF2 i don't think the problem is the drivers. How much RAM do you have? BF 2 takes a lot of Ram and if you want to play the game on high game settings and a high resolution you will wan't 2 Gigs of Ram. I f you have one gig try bumping down the game settings and try a lower resolution and also in the audio make sure EAX is off.

Best wishes

Actually I JUST found the updated (July-2-2005) drivers on Dell's site that fixed my problem with BF2. The problem was that shadows were shown in giant square blocks. It is a known problem unless you are using ForceWare v75.00 + , so the default drivers that came with my XPS GEN 2 were 72.01 , now they are updated to 77.24. I also found some relatively helpful sites that show how to hack the main INF files for nvidia drivers so you can run the main non-mobile ForceWare driver packs. Didnt feel like going that route tho

My specs are:

Inspiron XPS Gen 2 - shipped 8/11/2005
17" 1920x1200-32bit display w/ TrueLife
2.0ghz Dothan
2gig of DDR2 RAM
60gb 7200rpm internal + 100gb 5400 external 2.5" pocket drive.
DVD+-R Drive
256mb GeForce Go  6800 Ultra
Intel 2200 Wireless
Bluetooth Wireless Add-on
Windows XP Pro SP2

Bought my new baby for $2200 bucks at wholesale. Sold one of my main gamer workstations and my old Inspiron 8600 to get it. Pretty light too, dont even notice the size or weight difference when carrying it in my backpack versus the 8600 i got last year.

I love how i can play NFSU2 at all high settings and Call of Duty, FarCry, C&C Generals, BF2 and everything all at high settings. It even rivals my main gamer workstation that has a dual-core Athlon X2 4400+ and a GeForce 6800GT PCI x 16. Basically getting about the same framerates. Even game load times are comparable, and my main workstation is running dual 160gb Seagate SATA-II drives in stripe mode.

Oh yes!! You just reminded me, my TV in my office is a 44" zenith LCD projection and it has both a DVI and RGB input that i used to use on my inspiron 8600. My receiver even has an input that is compatible with the laptop for sound. I used to play NFSU on my last laptop on the TV. Now i am going to try it with NFSU2 and this new GEN 2 !!

I've got the XTRAC PRO HS gamer pad (www.xtracpads.com) which is really really good for optical mice, it has the best accuracy i've ever seen in a mousepad. I have 2 of the Logitech MX518 optical mice and a Microsoft Intellimouse Explorer 4.0 as a spare for my other desktop I recently sold. I even have one of the mini Microsoft "Wireless Notebook Optical Mouse" v1.0A for when i travel and things are cramped in the backpack. It works pretty good, it is real solid and so small... the USB adapter tucks up inside it which is really handy.
