if you are buying a new 8400, get the X850XT PE that dell offers, as it is better than an x800pro.

if not, you should be fine. just make sure the pci slot beneath the card is not occupied.

See/read the July Maximum PC review/comparison of the ATI x800xl and $100 cheaper Leadtek nVidia-based PX6600 GT. Unfortunately the review isn't available online (at least I couldn't find it..) but the x800xl stomped the PX6600 in benchmark and Halo, Doom3 and Far Cry tests. The x800xl has a full 16 pipe configuration in addition to 256MB of GDDR3 RAM with GPU and memory clock speeds of 398 and 493 MHz respectively. And the x800xl is a single slot card, too. The ATI retail price is $300...but more than likely can be found for less elsewhere.

And that was the point of the review...what you get in terms of performance for that extra $100 more, but still at or under $300 total cost.

Those two cards are just an unfair match...Then again nVidia doesn't have a 16 pipeline card that's equal in price to the x800XL...
