Problem with Fan on Latitude CS 400(XT or something)

Question

Hello, I have a problem. The fan doesn't work when it is connected on the mainboard but I tested it and it works with an adatper. The fan is 5V, could the connector have 12V so it doesn't work ? I also changed the wires at the plastic piece with all combinations but no effect. The fan is a 30x30x6mm Sunon KD0503PEBX-8, DC5V, 0,9W. It looks like new, maybe it was installed later. I bought it on ebay.de (I'm from Germany).

Hi,   The fan wont run all the time, only as needed. If you run the Diags you can make it run. I dont know why you changed the wiring, as if it is the correct fan the wiring will be right. I would put it back as it was and test with the Diags.                                                                               Regards Chris

What do you mean with diags ? The fan isn't running even when the Notebook gets hot.

I have an image of the Mainboard. There you can see how the wires of the fan are connected (on the left). Could somebody say if that is correct as it is ? (this ist the original state after I opened it)

Hmm I searched for Threads about my Notebook. Somebody said the fan would just start if the CPU gets very hot. I would like to know at which temperature it starts. I wouldn't like to see my CPU burn. :)

Hi,

Have you tried the Diags to test the Fan ? It should come on around 70 degrees ( around about ). You can also download a program to control the fan and the temperature.

I can't test it now. Have to wait for new HDD and I have no floppy to run the diagnostic tool. How can I run it with Win XP ?
