There is indeed a conflict with a recent Win 2000 update.  You can try using the other (postscipt) driver.  Search this forum for more detailed information.

Does anyone know which update is causing the problem?  Can it be removed?

I can see and add the post script printer, but I am unable to print to it.  The print job just disappears.  I would have hoped that Dell would have stepped forward here and sent out a fix or patch by now, especially if it's a common problem.

Can you print from the XP server? If not, then it's not the win2k update that's the issue. You can try restarting the print spooler on the server. And make sure that the "lexbce server" or the "dlb* device" service is not disabled.

If you can print from the server, then it may well be from the win2k update. See this thread -> http://forums.us.dell.com/supportforums/board/message?board.id=S2500&message.id=3904

Use the driver for Lexmark E320.  The Dell 1700 is OEM'd by Lexmark for Dell.

I had a problem with the Dell drivers after running the Windows update.

Something about "DKAAP1P"

Couldn't ever get it work.
