sorry another part of this is that this happened before and I had to load win 2000, not the dell supplied one. My bios says you can not set a admin password becuase this system has no service tag. Question, I'm thinking that since it does not have a service tag, would that mean I would have to use the mother board manufactures (Phonix Tech) update veresion dells.
Ao8 was phonix tech and the new update is Dells bios. Dell took all phonix bios versions and creat their own with the updates.
If you know what the service tag is supposed to be, you can reset it with ASSET.COM. Did you buy the CPxJ as the original owner? If you did, Dell should have a record of it. Although the BIOS versions show for the Dell Latitude, they were still originated by Phoenix. Dell originated BIOS did not come on the scene until much later, in the D-Series and the later Inspirons. The Inspiron 8200/C840 Clones were the last C-series made and they use Phoenix BIOS versions
