Usually the fans last the lifetime of the laptop.

Would that be 5 years, 10 years of heavy use or they never fail?

My original laptop is now over six years old and its fans still work perfectly!

Is there any indication that a fan isn't working other than not hearing it for an unusual period of time and the smell of molten metal? Isn't there some software that monitors computer temperature that issures alarms if temp approach danger levels?
