Verify you're video properties are set correctly. Generally Fn+F8 on most notebooks should do the trick, but somtiems you gotta fiddle with display properties as well. Check page 33/34 for verifying video settings on the following link:
Another problem, which I have experienced in the past, is that if the projector you are attempting to use does not recognize the the resolution you laptop is sending it may simply ignore your laptop. Try changing your resolution to something smaller to see if that solves your problem.
Since the 700m is a widescreen it may not be possible to change the resolution to something your particular projector recognizes, I'm really not sure as I've never dealt with this particular problem with a widescreen resolution.
