Most other what doesn't fit? It's a standard SVideo connector. The only difference
is that there are a couple more pin outs for the SPDIF and composite feeds. You can get an adapter at Radio Shack.....SVid to composite (RCA).

Here is that same adaptor which shiped with your 9100 this subjuct has come up numerus times and i have posted the dell part # and it still cant be located by dell's site or spare parts. It converts 7 pin s-video male to 4 pin s-video female & RCA video & audio.

Here is the link go to the link below put your pointer over Audio/Video Products then select s-video in the box to the right that displays then when the S- video page comes up scroll down to part# CLAV026 it is about the 5 th product from the bottom of the page. This is the same exact adaptor which shiped with my 9100 XPS Gen 1 & XPS Gen 2

Thanks, found one on ebay after you linked that site ($38!? wow) and got it for $9 shipped...

TDunn: The reason other ones don't fit is not related to the number of pins in any way... the port is embedded about 1/2" into the plastic molding of the laptop so other converters can't even reach it. The dell one is one of the few with a connector thin enough to allow it to actually connect.

Thank's that is good to know because a lot of people have had problems geting their Dell laptops s-video working with tv's .  I always thought the problem was converting from 7 pin male to 4 pin female.  I have owned 4 Dell laptops a 1100, 9100, XPS Gen 1 & XPS Gen 2 and all but the 1100 has shiped with that adaptor from Dell and i find it hard to beleive it can't be located on the Dell site or from Dell spare parts even with the Dell part #  and the manufactures part # on a sticker on the adaptor itself and on the package it is shiped in.  My neibhor just purchased a 9300 and it did not come with the adaptor so i gave him one of mine.  Anyway $9.00 is way better than $38.00.  If you will when you receive it if you can post the info the part # and suplier or manufacturer it will help a good bit of forum members.

Thank's

Fair enough...so I will show what I use on this port.....

...which can also be found on eBay for a few bucks here.  Dell also sells one like this here.

And another one...

But to fess up.....I don't think Radio Shack sells these now.  I suppose you were referring to this type of adapter...

But....you can still use this type of adapter with the 9100 and a standard 4/7 pin svideo cable.

What kind of laptop do you have?   This is the exact same adaptor that shiped with my laptops from Dell my 9100, XPS Gen 1 & XPS Gen 2 . It did not ship with the 1100 which i bought for my mom but i have hooked it up and the 1100 works with this adaptor also.

This subjuct has come up numerus times and i have posted the dell part # and it still cant be located by dell's site or spare parts. It converts 7 pin s-video male to 4 pin s-video female & RCA video & audio.

I am stuggling to get mine to work. So I googled the  part number = p/n3848p, and found two on e bay. Hope you can find one. I bought a S video cable at radio shack and it did not work, no wonder,  it only has 4 pins. So I connected the adapter, still no signal. I'll take all the advice I can get.

I have an Inspiron 4000, shipped with Windows ME. I've upgraded to windows XP.  the part number I'm using is P/N 3848P.  At one point in community forurm I read that for ATI cards, which I have, I should select the monitor as the primary display from the advanced tab at display, settings. I cannot locate any settings to allow that setting.

My 9100 and XPS Gen 1 both had ATI cards the reason you don't have those display options. Is without the proper adaptor the software isnt reconizing the hardware because it isnt making conection therfor the software is not displaying the option.Bottom line is you need the adaptor i posted previous or one that works. The adaptor i posted the link to works many other adaptors don't.

The picture on the TV is not scrisp and clear like laptop's LCD . When I try to hook my inspiron 6000 to the TV , the text is so blurry . I think it just for watching DVD ( or maybe I got a cheap S-video to RCA cable ) Is it affect the quality ?

Yes the quality useing s-video or RCA isnt verry good. I have a 42 inch plasma and i use DVI or VGA and it is perfect but when i use s-video or RCA the quality is poor.

I have a Dell laptop (Inspiron E1705) with a 7-pin mini-DIN S-video port. I wanted to
connect my laptop to my TV which has the 4-pin S-video port. I was able to find a
cable with two 4-pin plugs, but still needed a 7-pin (male) to 4-pin (female) adapter in order to
plug the cable into my laptop.

After 2 days and several hours on the phone with the Dell Tech Support, small-parts sales, and others of varying accents (most not American and very difficult to understand), I was told to go
to an electronics store!

Excuse me?

My (very expensive) new Dell laptop with a 7-pin S-video port; and Dell tells me that they have nothing that will connect to that port!!

What is wrong with this picture?
