Wireless connection continually breaking

Question

Hi, My computer is continually disconnecting from the wireless network every 5 - 10 minutes without fail. How it happened: The network worked fine but was completely unsecured so I tried to secure it. I turned on WPA encryption resulting in the computer being unable to connect to the router, so I turned it off. I performed the same actions with WEP encryption and then using the computer's MAC address and each time I was unable to connect to the wireless network so I reset the router to its default settings (unplugged it and hit the reset button with a sharpened pencil) and left the network unsecured, the state it was in when I started. I also reinstalled the Wireless router software off its installation CD to reset any settings on the HD. Now the connection to the wireless network drops as I wrote above, every 5 minutes or so. I am using a Dell Truemobile 2300 router and an Inspiron 8600 computer, XP Home Ed. Can someone please help me, I'm at my wits end as this has been an unhappy tech adventure of several days now. There was a firmware update for the router that addressed this issue. Do you have the latest updates? Update the drivers at Product Support above. Also, when setting up the router and security, make sure you are using a wired ethernet connection instead of the wireless, then use the wireless feature after everything is set up. Hi,

Thanks for the advice, I had thought that I had upgraded the firmware but apparently I hadn't successfully done so. I have had a stable internet connection all morning now since the upgrade.

I'm going to try and re-encrypt the router, hopefully it works this time.
