Inspiron 3700-battery fully charged but not working

Question

I replaced the battery in my Inspiron 3700 several months ago-laptop working great. the unit is about 6 years old (WIN98) but operates OK. Now, with the battery at 100%, the laptop suddenly no longer works on battery. If I pull out the charger plug the unit goes dead immediately. I tried re-inserting the battery but no luck. Is there a setting in the software that went bad? Thanks.

The battery is dead. Replace it.
