Inspiron 5100 Screen Goes Black

Question

Yesterday, I started having a problem with my notebook. It's 2 years old this month, and besides the major heat coming from the keyboard, it hasn't given me any trouble. I was in the middle of an aim conversation, when all the sudden, my screen went dark. I could still faintly see the message box, and could follow my touchpad cursor around the screen when i moved it, so I know the computer was still functioning. I shut the lid for a minute, and when I opened it the screen came back to life. 5 minutes later, it went black again, and now, every time I turn on the computer, the screen stays on for about 10 minutes, then goes dark. When I close and re-open the lid, the screen flickers back to normal for about 5 seconds, then goes back to dark. What could be the problem?

The backlight is failing. Contact an LCD repair shop.
