Unable to Connect to Network

Question

I have done a search and haven't run across anything like this yet. I have an Inspiron 6000. I removed the built in wireless card and am using a Belkin pre-n card with a pre-n router. I usually use the laptop on my desk about 5 feet from my router, so I know signal strength or interference isn't a problem. My connection drops every now and then...about every 15-20 minutes. If I unplug the card and plug it back in, it'll work again for a few minutes. I also notice that the card, when unplugged, is very very hot. Any ideas? I've used the card at Panera where they have a g network and it seems to work fine there,.

Are there are other wireless networks in your vicinity? Have you tried changing the channel your router is using?

hey- i seemed to have something of the same problem. i have been using a two wire gateway as a router, and the same thing used to happen to me, the disconnecting every half hour or so. what i did was access the system summary page for my router and hit the link to upgrade the router firmware. havent had any problems with it since. it is normal for the card its self to get hot.
