Inspiron 8600 and Dell 2005FPS External Monitor

Question

I am having a problem using my Dell 2005FPS monitor with my Inspiron 8600. I connect the external monitor into my docking station, load the laptop and boot. Everything shows up fine on the external monitor, the laptop posts and brings me to the Windows XP login screen. I login, then a few seconds latter, the external monitor goes black and displays the error: 'D-Sub: Cannot display in this mode'. If I open the laptop, it displays fine on bothe the laptop monitor and the external monitor, I close the laptop again, and I receive this error message again.   The Inspiron has the GeForce FX Go5200 video card and I have updated the video card bios and drivers to the latest, and loaded the latest monitor drivers.   Any ideas on how to get the Dell 2005FPS working with the laptop closed?   Thanks. Tom

I don't own an 8600 myself but does it come with a DVI monitor output or just a VGA one?
