At the time of ordering I hope you chose the option to receive a copy of XP as it will not now come automatically with delivery of the laptop.
Don't all new Dell computers with a CD burner come with a image that you can burn for that restore copy of XP? The last desktop I ordered did, and to get the OEM code you just run Belarc Advisor.

Dell have recently changed its policy and the ability to burn your own copy of XP has been removed. If you want an XP CD after your laptop has arrived then they want $10 for it.

Oh that is so messed up on every level I can't even begin to go off about it.
Never mind, yes I can...
To the powers that be: the decision to remove the Burn your own recovery disk I think is foolhardy and as environmentally unfriendly as anything I have seen in the last year. When I saw it on the new desktop I ordered for my company I was thrilled. Finally a solution to all of the recovery disk issues I have heard from everyone for years (and I used to work for a national computer radio show, who got tons of calls about computer companies that gave everyone a hard time about their own copy of the media).
Dell, Love your products, but this is a way dumb idea.
When the hard disk dies, the special recover partition is gone too. So no recovery without CD.
This is ultimate stupidity DELL.
Actually, I think I slipped in under the wire on this policy. My machine is shipping preloaded with Image Restore as part of the software load. Unless they have changed it since my corporate order, that is the restore CD image on the drive. I'll have to doublecheck.
Sorry but did you not understand my previous post?
Your new laptop will not ship with the ability for you to burn your own XP CD. The Dell restore image which will be on a hidden partition on your hard drive is something completely different.
I believe if you call and complain to Customer Service after you receive the system, they will ship the CDs to you overnight free of charge. Of course, they could change this at any moment, as a lot of people are catching on to this, so they could start charging for the CDs even after you get the system, so I'd call and ask for the CDs as soon as you get the system.

Make sure you got (or purchase later) a 3-year warranty, because notebook repairs are common and expensive.
