Insp. 1150 adapter with broken pin? Maybe?

I have this quick since my battery is running dead. I'm not sure what happened today when I was carrying my laptop and adapter downstairs, but for some reason, the AC adapter will not fully go into the socket now. On the adaptor side, there is still a pin inside the hole, and everything else looks fine. How long is this pin in the adaptor supposed to be? Can anybody link to a picture so I can rule that out? Currently, the pin comes half way up the inside of the hole. If it is because a part of the pin has broken off inside the socket, what can I do to get it out? Will I have to buy a new socket or adapter? In the meantime (and because the clock is quickly ticking down on handing in the first chapter of my thesis), If I break the rest of the pin off will it work or will it damage the computer? Any help is GREATLY appreicated.

Basically, if you've damaged the pin on the mainboard, you'll need to replace the mainboard - unless you can find a surface mount rework shop that can replace just the connector.

Ignore this message. I was being a total idiot and didn't even THINK to check to make sure that the plug on the adapter box was snuggly plugged in.
