Inspiron 1100, won't boot, device in modular bay

Question

I am getting a re-occuring error.  When I go to power on a Dell Inspiron 1100, the notebook won't boot to Windows XP, rather the screen is all black and says that it can not recognize the device in the modular bay.   The thing is, I do not have the modular bay option on this Inspiron.   I hoped a flash to the A32 BIOS would fix it, but it does not.    Is there anything anyone can suggest other than sending the unit in to Dell for diagnostics?

Go to F2 BIOS setup and set your Boot order for Diskette(if you use a USB Floppy)then CD Drive, then Internal Harddrive. If you see a line entry for Modular Bay HDD which has arrowheads on the line, disable it with the space bar and the arrowheads will disappear.
